First Light on Concrete

Stillness paints the sky in grey
But color waits to find its way
Concrete cold beneath my shoes
But morning hums in subtle hues
Breath hangs soft in silver air
A quiet proof that someone cares
First light on concrete
Doesn’t shout, just gently speaks
That something new begins again
Without the need for where or when
No big signs, just steady beat
In the first light on concrete
Taxi lights like passing stars
Waking up these sleeping bars
Yesterday clings like perfume
But I can breathe a little room
First light on concrete
Doesn’t shout, just gently speaks
That something new begins again
Without the need for where or when
No big signs, just steady beat
In the first light on concrete
Even cracks can catch the glow
Even tired hearts can grow
First light on concrete
Soft as jazz beneath the street
No parade, no neon show
Just a promise moving slow
And I walk it, incomplete
With this first light on concrete
