Built to Burn

Yesterday I finished my story, had to let it go
Wrote down the words I needed the world to know
By the time I hit thirty, it'll all make sense
But the artists won't get it, they're too far from my essence
Is it for me, or is it for them?
A song of love, or a song of dust?
I’m chasing memories, but I’m chasing them to sell
Why I gotta build something beautiful just to go set it on fire?
That’s not what I meant, don’t get it twisted
Intentions matter, why’s it all so conflicted
Trying to let go, but these memories cling
Please let me go, I want to leave them behind
Is it for me, or is it for them?

I know the duty to finish feels meaningless
How could all art be perfect, flawless?
I don’t want an open-ended tale
But this is the message that I wanted to unveil
If it’s really for me, can you stop it right here?
Life goes on, that’s a phrase I hold dear
But I’ve already stopped, so show some respect
My world’s incomplete, but it’s the value I’ll protect
