AMAZING GRACE
작사,곡John Newton
1750년대 영국의 노예들을 실어 나르는 배의 선장이었던 그가 하나님의 은혜로 예수를 믿고 목사가 된후 예수를 증거하다가 죽은후에 자기묘비에 다음과 같이 적게하였읍니다.
Newton's tombstone reads, "John Newton, Clerk(심부름꾼), once an infidel and libertine, a servant of slaves in Africa, was, by the rich mercy of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, preserved, restored, pardoned, and appointed to preach the faith he had long labored to destroy."
그는 자기를 목사라 부르지않고 심부름꾼이라읍니다.
“…..심부름꾼 존 뉴톤은 우리의 주님 되시고 구세주이신 예수 그리스도의 풍성한 은혜로 보존되고 회복되고 용서받고 또 자기가 오랬동안 대적하고 파괴하려했던 믿음을 오히려 전하게 읍니다…”
But a far greater testimony outlives Newton in the most famous of the hundreds of hymns he wrote: 나 같은 죄인 살리신 주 은혜 놀라와…
