You kept old buttons, every size
Like they held forgotten ties
Some were chipped and some were blue
Still, they all belonged to you
You said nothing ever ends
If we keep the smallest friends
You don’t keep things for their price
But for meaning once, or twice
Buttons in the jar remain
Like the proof you still sustain
Not in diamonds, not in gold
But in stories left untold
