Drive Without You

The streetlight paints the dashboard gold
Just like before, but the seat feels cold
Same playlist on, same gentle turns
But nothing plays the way it burns
You used to hum along with me
Now I just drift through memory
I’m on a drive without you
Wheels still spin, but nothing’s new
The city glows like it used to
But every sign points back to you
No rearview tears, no final sound
Just open roads and silence now
It’s a drive
A drive without you
Coffee cup in the center spot
Where your hands warmed what time forgot
You’d reach and steal a sip, then smile
Now all I steal is extra miles
The lights go green, but I stay slow
Trying not to let it show
I’m on a drive without you
Passing all we once drove through
The laughter fades into the breeze
As memories blur between the trees
I take the route we loved at night
But shadows ride the passenger side
It’s a drive
A drive without you
Maybe someday, this road will clear
And I won’t hear your voice so near
But for tonight, I chase your ghost
Down every curve I miss the most
I’m on a drive without you
But part of me still pulls us two
Through yellow lights and long goodbyes
I ride beneath your absent skies
You’re gone, but not all the way through
It’s still a drive
A drive without you
