I wrote this song in church, on the back of the bulletin, where the sermon notes were supposed to go. It wasn't my fault. John Davies, my fiery Welsh minister, preached an impassioned message on the importance of living our lives according to the power of love, rather than the love of power. "Amen!" I thought, "and ... what a great song idea."

When we recorded the song a few years later for my first album, Rich Mullins came in to play hammered dulcimer on the track -- it would be an understatement to say I was thrilled to meet him and have him play on my record. If ever there was a guy who "got" living by the power of love, it was Rich. He eventually got the dulcimer part, too.
